Talus Rock Is a home away from home. The hosts go the extra mile to make you feel like Talus Rock is your home. From the minute you arrive and kick your shoes off in the foyer. To letting you take over their kitchen because you love to cook. So to be blunt if you are reading this you are thinking about staying at Talus Rock and think the only way you could go wrong is not calling Heather and booking your stay. Because if you cant relax and feel at home there you cant relax anywhere.
The moment you enter the driveway you feel as though you have found a little piece of heaven! You drive up and the sweetest dog Panda greets you in the drive way and follows you into the house! The house is unbelievably gorgeous! Every room in it makes you want to stay in it! … We made hot dogs and s’mores in the beautiful fire pit in the back yard one night and enjoyed there bbq the next. The staff are heartwarmingly friendly. Makes me wonder why I ever stayed in a hotel when you could stay in such a welcoming B&B! I would come back in a heartbeat and bring friends!
Hosts are wonderful and kind-hearted people. I would highly recommend during both summer and winter stays! From the facilities to their lovely dog Panda, Talus ranks above most hotels, let alone bed and breakfasts.
Everyone wants to walk into the place they have booked and be wowed…and Talus Rock Retreat will not disappoint! From the warm welcome to the eclectic and beautiful decor and grounds, we experienced 4 wonderful days there. The bed was really comfortable and the design of every little thing was over-the-top tasteful and wonderful. If feels like you are staying with family. They have all the local knowledge needed to help guide you for anything you are interested in doing; from boating, hiking, eating, shopping or just exploring the area. You can tell it is a labor of love! Can’t wait to stay there again next time we visit our son in Sandpoint. GO!
Highly recommend the Talus Rock Retreat for a time of respite and relaxation. The staff and owners are absolutely wonderful, warm and welcoming. The entire place is beautiful and unique, without pretension. We will most definitely be coming back! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!
My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Talus Rock Retreat and what an amazing weekend we had! From the time we walked in, to the time we left, we felt so welcomed and loved on. We enjoyed walking around the pond, listening to the bullfrogs and enjoying the country sounds. Our room was very comfortable (the Grand Arbor room) and everywhere we looked we saw all the little details of decor and hospitality. Absolutely one of best weekends we have had in long time. Peaceful, relaxing, great conversation with the other guests & host, and overall a much treasured experience.
Our son and his girlfriend surprised us with a stay at Talus Rock for our 46th wedding anniversary. We, and our entire entourage of kids and grandkids, were treated to a delightful tour of this unique and beautiful home and the surrounding property. It is amazingly beautiful without being overwhelming at all. They even welcomed our big dog! Once our family departed, peace descended and we found that we were enjoying a true “time out” from the pressures of our responsibilities. What a treat! If you are in need of a laid-back, easy going respite in the woods, this is it.
“Beautiful stay, warm and friendly hosts, and an amazing room.”
We were welcomed warmly on our arrival, wonderful people here. Our room was beyond amazing. We had a great times enjoying the grounds with our kids and interesting guest and fantastic host made this a highlight of our holiday. Fed chickens too! My kids are still talking about this place.
“Exactly What We Hoped For!”
…It was a stunning combination that enhanced the peacefulness of the surrounding grounds. From the tall pines, to the pond and water feature, to the chickens and of course, Panda (the dog). Everywhere you looked, nature was present and was at the heart of the home. Also embedded into every nook and cranny were amazing artistic touches….
My husband and I were blessed to relax and rejuvenate in this beautiful home for four days. Heather, and her staff, took excellent care of our needs and made us feel so welcome. It was everything we hoped for and the perfect location to celebrate our marriage!
“Beautiful views, grounds and home”
Talus Rock is beautiful … The photos accurately depict the rooms, common areas, grounds and views. This retreat is best for a couples getaway unless you are renting the spacious large suite on the lower level as most of the rooms sleep two. Heather (the owner) makes you feel like a long time friend coming for a visit. You should know up front that this is not a B & B with a large dining room for a seated hot breakfast but rather each room is stocked with muffins, bread, jam, fresh fruit, yogurts, granola, milk, orange juice and coffee that guests can enjoy on their own time frame with the use of a coffee maker, toaster, mini fridge and microwave in their room (our mini kitchen was set up inside the large walk in closet) There is a BBQ available for guests to use as well…
…We met other fun guests while here as well which probably would not have happened at a traditional hotel. Heather introduces everyone to each other so you don’t feel awkward sharing the great room space or patios at the same time even though it was never crowded and we also had times when we felt like we had the place to ourselves.
“A stay like no other….serenity, peace & love”
The property is absolutely majestic, unique, tranquil, comfortable, safe, clean, welcoming….it’s simply amazing!!!!
…The property was like a little piece of heaven with the sounds of nature, the ponds, the beautiful wandering chickens and of course their beloved Panda and fellow visiting pups!! Gathering at the fire pit, sharing our musical gifts was a wonderful way to end our day….with our new friends and a few fellow guests….
Heather, her staff…then her family were absolutely delightful as they welcomed us in with open arms.
This, my fellow travelers, is an amazing amazing woman with a beautiful heart. The stories she shared with us about her work in India and Africa was astounding and this was a BIG part of why we chose Talus Rock. Its mission to serve others less fortunate and to serve those who sleep under its majestically crafted roof is what makes this stay unlike any other our family has experienced. This was a beautiful gift we which we will carry in our hearts forever….& hope to visit again….and again….and again.
This was a great find after a couple of mediocre hotels on our road trip. We had the Grand Arbor room, and really enjoyed our brief stay. Stunning timber frame home, with lovely eclectic furnishings. Comfy bed, weird and wonderful shower…It really is worth staying here.
“An Elegant Oasis”
Talus Rock is truly a Rivendell for all who enter it’s borders. An elegant oasis, made even more beautiful by the lovely people who own and operate Talus Rock. While the house itself is beyond breathtaking, decorated elegantly; the people of Talus Rock are even more so .
Never in my life have I been welcomed anywhere with such warmth and generosity as I did during my short stay at this lovely place. I had the pleasure to speak with a number of the other guests who have returned time and time again all for the same reason…the hospitality that exudes from every corner of the property and blesses all who stay here. To the owner Heather who greets everyone open armed–thank you for providing a beautiful oasis for all who pass through.
Well done, and we will definitely be returning!
To all of the gracious individuals who took the time to write of their experiences with us…a HUGE heartfelt Thank You – and to all that have written to give us room for improvement, we take all of your words to heart. We are most grateful to have been able to offer and share the experience with all of you… Blessings

We stayed at Talus Rock for our anniversary and were surprised by the quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail of this singular retreat. The staff was remarkable in their gracious hospitality; we’ve made a hobby of staying at unique getaway destinations, and have never experienced such a warm reception. Beautiful mountain views, close to charming downtown Sandpoint, and suitable for large gatherings or intimate escapes. Highly recommend.
Room Tip: We loved the Grand Arbor suite: beautiful, romantic, and unique.
“The house and owners are amazing”

The history of how the house was built is worth the visit alone. The owners and staff make you feel like family and it is like staying in your home only better. The grounds are beautiful and the location is only 2.5 miles from town. We love to hike so the owner told us about very cool trails near the house that we really enjoyed.
We had the suite and were visiting our son…so it was nice to have a kitchen that he cooked us dinner in and we were able to enjoy time with him.
“Picturesque and Perfect”

Talus Rock is the perfect combination of amazing architecture in a beautifully peaceful setting. We stayed in the “Nooma EXpanse” just for a weekend getaway, but the space is perfect for a gathering or special event. We enjoyed the spacious living room, gorgeous kitchen and comfy media room. What really made our stay special was the warm inviting atmosphere and great hospitality of Talus Rock. We definitely will be back to stay.

We went to visit my Son and Daughter in-law and her Mother for the weekend. It was a total awesome time!!! Heather and her Husband Bruce treated us like family as though we met them before. We celebrated Bruce’s birthday with them and met all their friends. They all treated us like family. My son Dennis has been staying with them through the summer, they love him like a son. I highly recommend the Talus rock retreat for a great getaway! Love them all and they love your Pets also!
